How to code using the Essence Framework

Wait? What? Wasn't Silver Essence about creating Portals and Apps, without writing a single line of code? And now there is a Youtube channel explaining all about coding ASP.NET pages, using C# and all? Confused? You wont be after reading this!

The Essence Framework

With the Silver Essence Framework you really can create Apps and Portals without writing a single line of code. If you want to convince yourself, just have a look at the Online Onboarding training. But just because you don't need to write a single line of code, that doesn't mean you cannot add your own code. On the contrary, the Essence Framework will provide you with all of the most commonly used screens for searching, creating and modifying data. With your own Security Model, Integrated Reporting and much more. So that will save you a lot of time. Time that you can now spend in creating beautiful controls that fit your Customer's needs, at a lightning speed!

Your familiar language and tool

Essentially, on top of the Essence Framework, you can create your own Custom Pages and Controls. Using standard ASP.NET and C#. Using a commonly used IDE (Integrated Development Environment) like Microsoft Visual Studio, on your own machine. We use these broadly accepted and widely used standards so you can work in a language you're most likely already familiar with. And using tools you are probably already working with. Within just a few hours you are up-and-running and ready to publish your first pages!

To sum it all up, here's what you already should know:

  • HTML, Javascript and CSS
  • C#
  • Microsoft SQL

So where to start?

To get started, you will need to install the Essence Framework on your local machine. Everything you need for that can be found on our Download page and we have an Instruction Video on our Youtube Channel. On your local environment, create a new Portal with a few BusinessControllers (or use a Template) and you are set and ready-to-go.

Now go to our Developers Den Channel and get familiar with all the basics of the Essence Framework. Happy Coding!
