Introducing the Dispatcher

Any local install of the Essence Framework needs to communicate with our User-Management Services. And it is essential to keep the local version in sync with the version of our User Management Services, which means you need to update regularly. Since we are getting more and more local installs, and more and more partners who like to keep their own update frequency, we felt the need to simplify this. So, instead of pointing to a specific version of the User Management Services, you can now simply rely on the newly introduced Dispatcher Service.

Introducing the Dispatcher

Let's compare the old and the new situation. In the old situation, you specified the address of the User Management Server in the Application Settings. Pointing to one of the available channels.

In the new situation, you only need to specify that you prefer to use the Dispatcher Service, to dynamically determine the correct Webservice URL to be used. By doing this, the Dispatcher will automatically point the local install to the correct version of the User Management Services. This is determined by the Framework's software version of your local install.

To be more precise, In step 1, the Framework will check with the Dispatcher which User Management Services version matches the local software version. Then, step 2, the Framework will communicate with that version of the User Management Services.

Activate the Dispatcher

To activate the Dispatcher, go to the Instance Manager of your local install, and check the box "Use Dynamic Webservice URL". Click Save to apply the change.

As you can see, the last used address of the Dispatcher will be displayed here. Using the Dispatcher will overrule the "Webservice URL" and "Webservice Host" settings. If for some reason our Support Team instructs you to go to a specific Webservice URL & Host, you will need to switch off the use of the Dispatcher.
