HowTo: Install the Silver Essence Framework

It is possible to run the Silver Essence Framework on a local machine. For example, if you want to host your own Portals for your customers in a private cloud. Or if you want to develop interactive Startpages or custom Basement functions. Also, it could be the case that you want to create a Portal on a local database that cannot be migrated to a cloud environment. In any of these cases, you can install the Silver Essence Framework locally.

For this you will need a machine that is running a recent version of the Windows Operation System. It could be a Windows 10 workstation, or a Windows 2016 server. Any machine that is capable of running these Operating Systems smoothly is capable of running the Silver Essence Framework. Preferably you will need 3.5 GB of Internal Memory and at least 1 GB of free space on your hard drive. If you want to deploy Portals that use a local MS-SQL Database, you will need an installed edition of that as well. Any edition of MS-SQL Server will do, so for a test or development environment you can also use the (free) Express Edition.

To be able to do the installation, you will need a Partner Account so you can go to our Partner Portal and create a new Instance. If you don't have a Partner Account or have not created Instances before, please contact us through partners@silveressence.net. The Installation Files you will need can be downloaded from our Productblog by clicking "Download". We have provided an instructional video that will guide you through the installation process.

As you will notice, we cover all the basics on setting up your Internet Information Server. Following these steps is sufficient if you are installing the Silver Essence Framework on a local machine that is to be used for testing or development purposes. If you use the local machine also to host Portals in a production environment, please be sure to configure the Internet Information Server further to be secure. In that case, the use of a SSL certificate is recommended. Contact your system administrator to do further configuration of your Internet Information Server.
